What we cover
Route choice and timing, packing, weather and mountain safety, navigation, low-impact hiking and first steps into multi-day trips. The guides are general and aimed at walkers in hill and mountain areas in temperate climates.
How the guides are put together
The advice draws on long-established hiking practice, such as Naismith's rule for timing, the ten essentials and the Leave No Trace principles, and on public guidance from mountain safety and weather organisations. We describe principles rather than specific trails, because route conditions change and should be checked locally.
The tools
The hiking time calculator and the packing checklist run in your browser. The checklist stores your ticks in your own browser so they are there next time; nothing is sent to us.
What we are not
We are not a guiding company, tour operator or rescue service, and we don't sell gear. There are no partner links on this site. Nothing here replaces training, local knowledge or your own judgement on the day.
